Deliverable 1 – report to ceo
One of my main responsibilities as the Director of Human Resources for an international organization is to assess and provide recommendations regarding diversity in the company. For this assignment, I’ll focus on race and ethnicity.
Race and ethnicity diversity is an important area for any organization to address because it can impact the company’s ability to attract and retain a diverse workforce, which can lead to better decision-making, increased innovation, and a better understanding of diverse customer needs.
As a first step, I’d recommend a survey of the entire organization to determine the state of diversity in terms ethnicity and race. The survey should collect data on the demographics of the company’s workforce, including the percentage of employees who identify as people of color and the representation of different racial and ethnic groups at different levels of the organization. It is important to collect information on employees’ experiences, such as instances of bias or discrimination.
According to the results of the survey, I recommend that the following strategies be implemented within your organization in order to increase race and ethnic diversity:
- Create a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan (DEI). The organization must develop a DEI plan which outlines the specific strategies and goals for increasing race and ethnicity within their organization. DEI plans should be created with the input of employees who come from diverse racial or ethnic backgrounds. They should include an implementation timeline and provide regular updates.
- Increasing Recruitment Efforts – The company should increase recruitment efforts in order to reach a wider audience. To reach out to a larger audience, the organization could partner with groups that promote diversity and inclusion.
- Enhance Employee Training and Develop: Provide regular opportunities for training and development to all employees. Managers and supervisors should be educated on how they can create a more inclusive working environment. Topics such as unconscious prejudice, cultural competence, and effective cross-cultural communication should be covered in the training.
- Create Employee Resource Groups: Establish ERGs to allow employees of different races and ethnicities to network and exchange experiences. ERGs also can help in identifying issues and improvement opportunities within an organization.
- Perform Regular Diversity Audits. To track the progress of goals for diversity and to identify improvement areas, an organization should perform regular diversity audits. This audit will include an evaluation of the HR policies and procedures to make sure they are fair and impartial.
To conclude, improving race-ethnicity diversity in an organization will require a holistic approach, which includes data collection and goal setting as well as targeted recruitment, development, training and coaching strategies. An organization can achieve a more diverse and inclusive environment by implementing a DEI plan.
