A new medical procedure has been suggested to you.
In order to decide whether a particular procedure falls under registered nursing practice, you should first determine what the physician wants nurses to do. First, I’d review pertinent documents like state boards or nursing regulations. These documents contain information about what falls within the scope-of-practice for registered nurses. I would then look at any training needed before I implemented the new procedure. You may need to complete courses and obtain certifications in certain areas. If I needed to, i would seek out additional experts such as experienced nurses or practicing doctors who are familiar with the procedure.
Then, I would present the findings of my research to physicians as well as fellow nurses via various means, such a meetings, email, and video conference if needed. During these conversations, I believe it’s essential that all parties feel comfortable having an open dialogue about potential risks associated with implementing the new procedure and ways we can work together to ensure safety of our patients during implementation phase. When introducing a new procedure into the healthcare system, it is important that everyone understands how crucial interdisciplinary cooperation can be. This requires clear communication between departments.
Once everyone is in agreement on the new procedures, I recommend that you continue to assess them throughout their implementation by collecting feedback and monitoring results from those who will be performing these activities every day (e.g. performance reviews, polls, etc.).), and making sure any changes/modifications needed are addressed in a timely manner so that patient care remains optimal at all times .
