The title of this article is: Resolving Conflicts in Groups for a Team Project
This abstract describes the group project where a particular problem occurred and was eventually resolved. A group of six researchers, myself included, worked on the project. Problems arose because of miscommunication and divergent ideas between team members. Communication and collaboration were key to solving the problem. A lack of expectations was the root cause, as well as miscommunication between team members. I would have approached the situation differently if given the chance to go back and relive it. This time, my approach would be more clear communication.
Introduction Group work can provide individuals with a wonderful opportunity to achieve a shared goal. Conflicts can occur due to miscommunications, competing ideas or lack of clarity. This paper will discuss a project that I worked on and the problem it faced.
Description of the Project The project involved a team of six people, myself included. We wanted to do research and write a summary of our findings. Each team member had to do their own research for the project, which lasted six weeks.
A problem was encountered during the project due to miscommunications and divergent ideas between team members. Others felt their contributions weren’t being acknowledged. The group’s morale was affected, and the project progressed slower.
The Problem Solved To solve this issue, the group held a discussion to find out what the problem was and how to resolve it. In the meeting each member of the team was given an opportunity to voice their opinions and express concerns. The team reached a consensus about the direction of the work through active communication and collaborative efforts. In addition, each member of the team was given clear expectations, which reduced confusion and miscommunications in future.
Cause of Problem It was found that the cause of this problem is a lack in clear expectations, and misunderstandings among the team members. Some team members did not know what to expect from them while others failed to communicate effectively their thoughts and concerns. It led to conflicting views and low morale in the team.
Change of Approach I would change my approach if given the chance to go back and relive this experience. This time, I’d communicate more clearly with the team members from the beginning. I would make it a point to check with all team members regularly to see if everyone is on the right track and address any ideas or concerns they might have.
The project’s success was due in part to active communication between team members and their collaboration. In addressing and setting expectations clearly, the team managed to resolve the conflict. It was through this experience that I learned the value of setting clear expectations and communicating clearly in order to prevent conflicts.
