Title: Statistics and Data in a Coffee Shop
The following is a brief introduction to the topic:
Statistics and data are essential tools in the healthcare industry to help inform clinical decision-making, research, and patient care. Understanding data and statistics in the nursing field is crucial to improve clinical outcomes and guide decision-making. This article presents an observational survey conducted in a café to determine data and statistical information. This paper aims to teach how to gather and analyze data, and to determine how that skill can be translated into patient care.
The Observational Study
This study involved an observation at a neighborhood coffee shop. Data was collected every 15 mins for an eight observation study.
- Noise Level (measured using an interval scale).
- Perceptions related to people’s behaviors (measured on an ordinal scale)
- Number of persons present on the ratio scale
- Staffing (measured by a ratio)
- Face expressions of customers on an orderly scale
- Staff facial expressions (measured using an ordinal scale).
- Number of tablets and laptops (measured using a ratio)
- Number of business meetings perceived (measured using a ratio-scale)
- It is better to sit alone than with 2 or more people (measured using a nominal scale).
Table 1 presents the findings of observations.
Table 1. Observation findings
Observation | Noise Level | Perceptions related to people’s behaviors | The number of persons present | The number of employees | Faces of customers | Staff facial expressions | Laptops and Tablets | The number of business meetings perceived | Two or more people sitting together |

Statistics and Data
Noise level, the number of people in attendance, and staff number were all taken into consideration when calculating mean, median, and mode. Percentage of the change every 15 minutes.
