The role of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) has grown in popularity over the past few years, largely due to their unique combination of specialization, autonomy, and direct care for patients. NPs are able to perform more complex procedures, such as prescribing medication and ordering tests.
In the future, as a NP I will build on these foundations by becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner. I will be able to offer primary care for all age groups, while also integrating holistic methods that consider both the physical and psychological factors.
Specifically, I expect my responsibilities as an FNP include performing assessments/diagnoses, formulating treatment plans, documenting patient visits/progress, coordinating resources for those in need, educating patients about their conditions/medications—as well as advocating on their behalf when needed. Also, I’ll be required to stay up-to-date with new healthcare policies and technology in order to provide the best care possible for my patients.
