Violence against women should be tackled both on and outside of the college campus. It is therefore important that campus nurse practitioners play an active part in helping to reduce this kind of violence. In order to achieve desired outcomes, several strategies can be implemented. This includes providing counseling/education about healthy relationships, sexual assault prevention and implementing programs for bystander interventions.
These initiatives must include at least training of staff on how to recognize signs and abuse, as well as the best way to respond in case something happens. Having clear policies about what is acceptable and the consequences of breaking those rules can also help everyone to understand expectations moving forward.
In terms of resources available there are also many organizations out here aimed at helping victims find assistance who may not have access otherwise – such as providing support groups or legal advice etc. What matters the most in addressing such a sensitive issue is to demonstrate empathy and create a secure, safe environment for victims.
