What is your vision for the future of nursing? How does your vision fit with the recommendations in the IOM report?

I envision a future in nursing where nurses can use their training and expertise to deliver high-quality care that is evidence-based, while meeting the needs of every patient. This can be accomplished through improved collaboration among healthcare professionals, better access to resources and technology, and increased leadership by nurses.

The Future of Nursing Report from the Institute of Medicine outlines some of these recommendations. Specifically, it emphasizes nurses’ abilities to enhance patient outcomes by taking a more active role in decision making and utilizing evidence-based practices. The document also urges nurses to increase educational opportunities and expand interprofessional collaborations.

My vision is aimed at creating an environment which promotes high-quality care, while simultaneously offering nurses greater autonomy and flexibility so that they can serve patients better. This is in line with the IOM Report’s recommendations.
