I am prone to being overcritical of myself. I have become overly anxious and self-conscious at times. This can make me perform poorly in some situations. Self-compassion exercises and mindfulness techniques such as journaling and meditation have helped me combat this problem. This helps me maintain a better perspective on the situation by recognizing that mistakes are part of learning, accepting that it’s ok to make them, and moving on instead of dwelling on them.
Recently, I had a disagreement with a colleague while I was working on a particular project. I thought they weren’t doing their fair share. Before I approached them, I took some reflection time on the matter. I then realized they were focusing less on our project than anticipated due to conflicting external priorities. We were able, by taking into consideration their external obligations, to create an agreement where each party could contribute to the project according to their own capacities and without impacting overall productivity or progress.
