In a nursing practice, collaboration between nurse educators is crucial for the design and implementation of successful curricula. Collaboration is important because it allows you to use the knowledge and expertise of multiple stakeholders to create a comprehensive education plan.
My future interprofessional collaborations may involve other nurse educators as well as healthcare providers, students, and administrators. Every stakeholder has their own unique experience and knowledge, which allows for an integrated approach in curriculum development.
In reflecting on my experience, I can say that my collaboration with my preceptor has been good. Collaboration has improved my lesson plans through open communication, a willingness for feedback and an open mind. But I also recognize that it is important to continue to develop my collaboration skills in order to provide the best outcome possible for my students.
My lesson plans will be strengthened by incorporating more active-learning strategies, using clear objectives and technology. It is possible to improve strategies by incorporating feedback early in the planning phase and including a larger range of stakeholders.
One of the areas identified for refinement is the improvement of the alignment between the learning objectives and the assessment. Another area of refinement includes ensuring the content of the course is evidence-based.
Lesson plan changes include adding more cases-based scenarios that promote critical thinking. Pacing is adjusted to accommodate more detailed discussions.
It is important to collaborate with other professionals when modifying the lesson plan. Participating in the planning can result in a comprehensive curriculum. Collaboration allows all stakeholders to be heard and encourages buy-in. It also provides an opportunity for continuous evaluation and refinement that leads to improvements in educational outcomes.
