Use the two different tools, HOPE questions and the FICA tool (Attached) to interview the participant. Discuss what situations you would you choose to use each tool. 

Both the HOPE and FICA tools are different ways to interview a person during a medical assessment. The HOPE questions (How, Observations, Perceptions & Expectations) are designed to help assess an individual’s understanding of their own health status. The How questions ask about the present situation, while Observations examines any associated symptoms or signs. Perceptions ask about how participants perceive their health at this time. And Expectations inquire into possible outcomes. These types of open-ended questions allow for more comprehensive analysis by encompassing both physical and emotional aspects of an individual’s wellbeing.

The FICA tool (Faith/Religion/Spiritual Beliefs, Impact/Influences, Coping/Management Strategies & Assessment/Goals) is also another useful tool for assessing patient needs in regards to religious or spiritual factors impacting their wellbeing. Faith questions focus on beliefs or values related to topics such as spirituality or religion; Impact queries identify any positive or negative influences that those beliefs may have had on them in the past & present day contexts; Coping explores any strategies employed by individuals when dealing with stressors related to faith topic matters while Management explores any specific plans they have set up which facilitate better management in these areas going forward.Assessment questions ask patients to evaluate their own progress and Goals outline plans for achieving desired results.

In conclusion, it is important for healthcare providers conducting assessments to recognize that faith can influence overall wellbeing – even if it does not necessarily manifest itself physically through disease diagnoses. Using both the HOPE Questions and the FICA during interviews allows for a more holistic approach to caring for chronic illness patients who also have deeply rooted religious beliefs systems.
