In this course, it was clear that healthcare policy has a direct impact on nursing roles. It dictates what services can and should be offered. By understanding the policies, nurses can advocate better for patients and ensure that their needs are met.

It is also important to recognize how patient outcomes are shaped not only by individuals but also by systems – meaning all nurses must work together in order to ensure optimal results. The nurses could collaborate with the other members of their healthcare team in order to identify best practices. They may also advocate for additional resources to help them provide better care to patients, such as specialty equipment and more staff. The course has revealed the need to be aware of current trends as well as historical influences. We can then continue to drive positive changes within our profession, while also providing high quality patient care.
