I have had both a positive and a negative experience when it comes to healthcare information systems. The convenience of having electronic records available anywhere is great, but the complex nature of the systems can sometimes make it difficult to navigate. The transition was relatively smooth, since many of my colleagues had prior experience using health care information system and were available to help.
The major benefit I’ve experienced is the speed and accuracy of obtaining a patient’s medical history or other pertinent data. Being able to access a lot of data about a patient in one location has helped me make informed decisions. The ability to submit lab results online or complete forms electronically has also saved me time. I no longer have to wait for weeks to get them.
There are some drawbacks to this system, such as its cost and the security concerns. It can take a long time to set up a new computer or software program, and it is not for everyone. Furthermore, if something goes wrong in updating patient information on these systems due to technical difficulties or human error it can cause serious problems down the line for patients’ treatment plans if left unnoticed by clinicians or administrators alike.
The medical record exposure I received while studying nursing school shed light on how important proper documentation is when caring for patients as well how vital health care information systems are becoming in today’s world . Now that I have this information under my belt, I am more prepared to enter a professional healthcare setting.
