Identification of a problem in health care and the target population
My national disease prevention and health promotion issue of choice is childhood obesity. It is of great concern to the public in America, as obesity increases the risk for chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. Also, the socio-economic effects can be significant since obesity in childhood increases your chances of finding a job later.
As my application 1 target, I’ll likely select children aged between 3 and 5 years as this is the age group most susceptible to serious health complications caused by obesity. Also it’s important to note that factors contributing towards this problem are multifaceted so any intervention must take into account environmental influences like access to nutritious food & physical activity options etc.
Moreover since this particular group may not always have direct control over their circumstances – parental involvement or support from community members could prove beneficial in helping them overcome such issues.
In conclusion, targeting kids aged 3-5 year’s provides opportunity for early interventions that can potentially reduce long term consequences related to childhood obesity.
