Telemedicine is a cost-effective way to increase the efficiency of a medical practice by reducing travel costs. It also allows nurses to be more flexible in the way they deliver care, as many consultations are conducted remotely.
There are a number of legal, ethical and privacy considerations to be considered when using this technology. This is in order to ensure patient safety as well as compliance with the applicable laws. These include complying with HIPAA guidelines related to data security & privacy , ensuring adequate documentation is maintained during virtual visits , adhering to state laws around prescribing medications via remote methods , etc . As long as these problems are addressed in advance I believe that telemedicine is a good option.
