The patient volume as well as reimbursement rates can both have a major impact on revenues in the healthcare setting. It is crucial to consider the patient volume because it determines how many patients a RN or APRN will be able see on a particular day. This in turn affects their revenue generation. Revenue is also affected by reimbursement rates, which determine the amount of money generated per patient. Both of these conditions have a major impact on APRNs who must consider them when caring for patients. To maximize time and revenue, APRNs may need to be more efficient in treating patients who come to their clinics due to lower reimbursement rates or a lack of coverage. If, on the other hand reimbursement rates were higher than normal, APRNs would need to provide better-quality care so that they could charge higher fees. To help them decide what kind of service is most suitable or profitable, they should also understand the demographics.
