The value and belief that most resonates with me from the reading is “Respect for Human Dignity”. In this value it is stated that professionals in public health should work to respect and recognize the dignity and inherent worth of each person. It is important to me that this value be emphasized in the field of public health. Often, those who are most vulnerable are overlooked or forgotten. We can provide everyone with the health care they require by recognizing their dignity and respecting it, regardless of race, economic status or gender.
This value I believe is important in creating an environment of inclusion where different perspectives are not ignored, but rather embraced and respected. Respecting human dignity fosters an environment of trust, which helps us better understand each other and find effective solutions to the public health challenges facing our communities.
