Reflection on Practicum Experience

The practicum I completed took place in a community health centre where I had the opportunity to participate and observe various initiatives relating to public health. While I was at the health center, I worked with many different people, such as patients, community leaders, and healthcare professionals. In this role, I gained a better understanding of how complex it is to provide comprehensive health care to a local community.

During my practicum, I put the theory and knowledge I learned from my public health coursework into action. For example, during a health education session, I applied my knowledge of the Health Belief Model to create a more effective health education session by addressing the patients’ perceived barriers, perceived susceptibility, and perceived benefits of the health behavior we were promoting. This helped increase the patients’ engagement and understanding of the topic.

My practicum taught me the value of community participation in health programs. Firsthand, I saw how patients and community leaders were able provide insight on the concerns and needs of the local community. The health center was able to customize their services in order to meet the specific needs and concerns of the local community, as well as improve overall health outcomes.

My practical experience has also allowed me to develop professional skills, including networking, team-building, and communication. In order to develop relationships and work on different initiatives, I worked closely with health care providers and leaders in the community. I was able to improve my communication and interpersonal skills through this experience.

In my future career as a public health professional I am committed to promoting the health of all communities through culturally-sensitive and comprehensive health care. They ensure that everyone has access to high-quality health care no matter what their background is.

Conclusion: My practicum experience has been a great learning opportunity. It gave me a lot of hands-on practice in the area of public health. The opportunity to learn from a variety of people and gain an understanding of how complex it is to provide comprehensive health services was a valuable experience. The knowledge and skills that I gained will be useful in my career as a health care professional.
