Case study: family member with alzheimer’s disease: mark and | Masters, FNP
- This situation reflects Jacqueline’s sense of role performance as being overwhelmed and conflicted. Jacqueline is trying to find a balance between her role as wife, mother and friend, while also caring for her mother. Due to her caring responsibilities, she cannot engage in social activities or leisure time and is also unable sleep. It is possible that her role stress may be a result of not being able to fulfill the demands of her job or conflicting roles (Barker 2018).
- Jacqueline could be harming her health by ignoring self-care or engaging in behavior that increases her stress level. It is difficult for her to participate in social activities and maintain leisure time, leading to feelings of loneliness. She is also unable to fall asleep at night which negatively impacts her mental and physical health. Due to her time restrictions, she may be overeating and not exercising. This can have a negative impact on Jacqueline’s health. Jacqueline should prioritize her self-care if she wants to prevent burnout, and keep her healthy (Barker 2018).
