Introduction:
Modern healthcare organizations cannot do without nursing informatics. This involves using technology, data analytics, and information management in order to improve healthcare efficiency and patient outcomes. This project proposal will focus on a nursing informatics initiative aimed at improving the efficiency of patient care in our organization. The project is to implement a computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), which will replace the existing paper-based system.
Project description:
Our proposed project involves the implementation of a CPOE in our organization. The CPOE platform is a digital platform that allows physicians enter orders for medication and treatment directly into an EHR system. It eliminates paper orders, manual data entry and errors in the EHR. This system integrates with EHR to create a smooth workflow for healthcare providers.
Project stakeholders impacted:
Physicians, pharmacists, and nurses who use the system are the primary stakeholder groups affected by the project. This project also impacts patients, who will gain from better patient outcomes and improved care efficiency. Moreover, it will also have an impact on the IT Department, who will be in charge of the maintenance and implementation of the system.
The improvement of patient outcomes, or the efficiency and effectiveness of care provided to patients:
Project’s primary goal is to reduce the risk of medication mistakes and other errors in treatment. The CPOE will alert physicians of potential errors in medication, drug interactions and allergies. It will also improve patient safety and quality of care by reducing the risk for adverse drug effects. This system also increases efficiency, as it eliminates the need to manually enter data and use paper orders.
Why and what technologies will be required to complete the project
The CPOE system is the primary technology required for this project. Other technologies include desktop computers and laptops as well as handheld and tablet devices. The CPOE will be the main technology for this project. This system will meet our specific healthcare needs and integrate with EHR to provide seamless workflows for the healthcare providers.
The role of a nurse informaticist in the project team
Project team members will be drawn from the IT department as well as nursing staff, doctors, pharmacists and other interested parties. Nurse informaticists will be a vital part of the team and provide expertise on the implementation, design, and evaluation. The nurse informaticist is also responsible for ensuring that the software meets the needs and workflow of the nurses and improves patient care and outcomes.
Conclusion:
This project is expected to have an impact on the quality, efficiency and safety of our patient care. CPOE systems will help reduce error rates and increase efficiency in the order process. This is good for both the healthcare provider and the patient. Project team members, such as the nurse informaticist will be crucial to the project’s success. Project team members will have to collaborate closely in order to optimize the workflow and ensure the system is meeting the needs of the stakeholders.
