In the past few months, I took the DNP800 Course: Theoretical Underpinnings. It has given me a greater understanding of how scientific and theoritical concepts impact nursing practice. In this course I developed knowledge, skills and attitudes to help me reach the objectives of the course.

The primary goal of this course will be to incorporate scientific and theory concepts into advanced nursing practices. Understanding the pathophysiological sciences, environmental science, and psychosocial sciences has helped me achieve this goal. These sciences have been integrated into my nursing practice, and I’ve learned that they improve patient outcomes. The course has made me a better nurse practitioner. My confidence and competence have increased, as well as my ability to deliver patient-centered and evidence-based care.

The course will also explore patterns and processes in knowledge acquisition and current knowledge utilization. This goal was achieved by critically reviewing the literature related to various nursing topics. How to evaluate and identify research studies, meta-analyses and systematic reviews. I also learned to use this information to enhance my nursing practice. Also, I developed the skills to search for, summarize, and present evidence-based studies in a professionally manner.

This course required me to develop a literature review on my favorite topic based on an academic framework. This assignment has helped me develop skills for researching, analyzing and synthesising scientific and theoretical concepts. In this assignment, I’ve learned how to find gaps in literature and design studies to fill these gaps. Also, I developed my skills for presenting findings in an organized and clear manner.

This course also helped me develop attitudes essential to advanced nursing practice. My commitment to lifelong learning and evidence-based nursing practice, both of which are vital for high-quality patient-care, has grown. In order to provide high-quality patient care, I’ve learned to collaborate with other health professionals. Additionally, I have developed a commitment to cultural competence, recognizing the importance of respecting patients’ cultural backgrounds and beliefs in the provision of healthcare.

This course enabled me to acquire various skills and knowledge that helped me reach the goals of the course. The course has taught me how to incorporate scientific and theoretical concepts in advanced nursing practice. I also learned to evaluate and use research evidence and to create a literature review based on theoretical frameworks. I also developed essential attitudes for advanced practice in nursing, such as commitment to lifelong learning and cultural competency. These skills and attitudes are what I need to deliver high-quality patient-centered nursing care, and make a meaningful contribution to the profession.
