In order to encourage ego integrity in residents of an assisted living facility various strategies can also be integrated into the daily activities. For group activities, it is important to create a sense of community by encouraging participation from all those involved in meaningful conversations or activities—such as art classes, board games, etc.—that allow them to come together and socialize with one another while learning new skills or finding common ground on topics that they care about.
It is also important to provide residents with individual activities. This allows them to do things they enjoy or foster their independence, such as write letters or take part in classes that are tailored for their abilities. Also, encouraging residents to reflect on their past through photos, scrapbooks, or other memorabilia, can help them feel positive and boost their confidence. Finally, volunteering initiatives should also be encouraged since this will provide a chance for residents to give back which can lead to greater feelings of purpose and satisfaction—helping maintain their overall wellbeing even during times of transition.
