In my research, I am examining the link between smoking and cardiovascular diseases. The association between smoking and cardiovascular disease is well-known. This includes coronary heart disease (CHD), strokes, and peripheral arterial disease. Therefore, it is important to understand how smoking affects an individual’s likelihood of developing these conditions.

Cohort studies are the best observational study to use for this type of study. Researchers can use this type of study to track individuals and compare the rates of outcome in smokers (in our case) with non-smokers over a period of time. Researchers can also adjust the study results for confounding variables such as gender, age or alcohol consumption.
