This project was designed to address the knowledge gap, skill set, and attitude gaps that existed among the older population in regards to mental illness. This group is frequently overlooked because of their age and therefore does not have access to adequate resources or care when dealing with psychological problems. The goal of my project was to raise awareness regarding the importance and value of mental wellness in this age group by providing education materials, resources that were specifically targeted at addressing concerns like depression or anxiety. As part of my project, I created a place where seniors can openly talk about these topics without feeling judged.

By doing so, I hoped that those who participated would gain an improved understanding of how mental health can affect one’s overall wellbeing regardless of age as well as practical tools for self-care. As well, I wanted to raise awareness in healthcare providers on the most effective ways of providing accessible treatment while advocating for older individuals with any kind of mental disorder. This initiative has helped to bridge the knowledge gap and help improve the mental health of this vulnerable group.
