Appalachian people. People with Arab heritage.
Appalachian culture and Arab culture have similar perspectives on the death process. They both believe death to be a part of the natural cycle of life that should always be treated with respect and reverence. They also both view funerals as an important part of mourning, with a focus on celebrating the deceased’s life rather than dwelling on their passing. Both cultures also emphasize how important it is to offer support to grieving people.
There are however some significant differences. Arabs often hold huge gatherings in honor of loved ones, where they pray and remember them. Appalachians might do the same. Another difference is that ceremonies are organized differently. One focuses on speeches and songs, while another relies heavily upon food music to facilitate the healing process. It is important to understand how cultures deal with difficult situations in order to ensure that the appropriate practice can be implemented.
