Both servant leaders and transformational leadership focus on their stakeholders’ success, but they differ in the way this is accomplished. Servant leadership is a holistic way of leading that places greater importance on followers’ well-being and views them as more than just employees, but as people who are integral to the organization. The leader of this type takes the time to listen and understand each individual’s needs, while offering guidance and support as needed.
Transformational leaders, on the other hand, seek to inspire their followers and set a vision of the future. To promote growth in an organization, they will use strategies such as inspiring innovation or challenging the existing norms. These strategies are then implemented with input from their staff which helps ensure that everyone’s voices are heard while also allowing for more effective decision making.
While these models appear to be similar, they have very different approaches when it comes time to manage stakeholder satisfaction. Servant leadership emphasizes humane treatment whereas transformational leadership promotes forward-thinking and innovation.
