Journey | culutral | Herzing University
My exploration of stereotypical beliefs and their impact upon cultural diversity has led me to conclude that these misconceptions could be detrimental if not addressed. Stereotypes can be based on incorrect assumptions or misguided belief systems that lead to negative attitudes toward certain groups in society. It can lead to a situation where people feel discriminated or marginalized because of their skin or background, leading to social inequality.
Stereotyping’s effects can go beyond making someone feel uncomfortable. It can cause actual harm. It is possible that false impressions could influence those who are in charge to make unjust laws or policies.
By becoming aware of harmful norms, we will be able to learn the best way to respond instead of blindly following their message. We can learn to look beyond exaggerated stereotypes, and instead focus on our differences. This will help us respect everyone regardless of their background or who they are.
