Access to high-quality healthcare is an important problem in health and nursing. People in certain areas of the globe are not able to access medical treatment due to financial restrictions, whereas others might have limited medical resources and personnel. The result can be an increase in preventable diseases or death as people go untreated for illnesses that would have otherwise been treated with the proper care.
As well, nurses may experience emotional distress when they are faced with patients that cannot get the care they require due to outside factors. Ultimately nurses must strive to make sure that everyone gets adequate healthcare, no matter what their situation is. This includes advocating for more equitable policy in the country they are working within and working toward providing quality treatment when possible.
