Thermoregulation refers to the way an organism regulates its body’s internal temperature in order for it to maintain optimal health. This is important because when the body’s temperature gets too high or too low, it can cause serious problems such as dehydration, heat stroke, hypothermia and even death.
This process is carried out by humans through different mechanisms, including sweating or shivering to cool down the body. Additionally, blood vessel dilation or contraction near the surface of skin is also regulated by external temperature. In the end thermoregulation is vital for maintaining homeostasis, so organisms are able to function at their peak in varying environments.
