Diabetes, glyburide, & teaching points of oral antidiabetic agents
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease in which insulin production by the pancreas is minimal to non-existent. This form of diabetes requires daily insulin injections, and long-term management.
Diabetes type 2 (also known as diabetes mellitus) is a condition that occurs when the body produces insufficient insulin, or when the cells fail to respond correctly to this insulin. Genetics and poor lifestyle can play a part, but it usually occurs over time. Diet and exercise, as well as medication such as metformin or other sulfonylureas can help manage it. However, some patients will need to receive additional treatment like insulin therapy.
