The concept of corporate social responsibility is that companies take an active role to address social and environment issues, while simultaneously contributing towards economic development. Companies must demonstrate a commitment towards sustainability and ethical practice, such as by reducing their carbon foot print, enacting fair labor practices, or supporting human rights initiatives. Patagonia Motors is an example of a company that has embraced social responsibility. Patagonia’s commitment to environmental protection is demonstrated through their use of natural materials, investment in renewable energy, and advocacy for climate justice. The company also has a “1% for the Planet” program that donates 1% on all sales made worldwide towards grassroots environmental organisations. Tesla Motors is working on innovative electric technologies to reduce the emissions of transportation. The company also works on solar panel systems that can be installed in residential homes throughout the United States, so people don’t have to rely solely on fossil-fuels. These two companies show how meaningful corporate social responsibility actions can benefit society as well as the environment.
