When I initially made the decision to pursue a career in nursing, I expected to gain greater job satisfaction and a sense of purpose—both of which were achieved but not to the extent that I had anticipated. This was due to the fact that while nursing can be very rewarding, it’s also an emotionally and physically demanding field with long hours which can take its toll on one’s mental and physical health over time. There is also a great deal of paperwork and dealing with patients that are difficult.
I was also faced with unexpected challenges due to the fact that my lack of experience made me unable to grasp certain concepts, or overwhelmed by what I still had to learn. All these things compounded together resulted in me not achieving everything I had hoped for when taking on this line of work—but despite these setbacks I eventually managed to find ways around them and am now happily employed in a job that brings me immense amounts joy every day.
