Walden University| NURS 8250 – Advanced Theoretical and Scientific Perspectives in Nursing | Walden University
Consider the relevance, suitability, and utility of a theory or framework when selecting it to address a particular research problem. Some of the key considerations include:
- Fit: Does it fit with the problem or research question? Do they align with your research goals and objectives.
- Coherence: Does the framework or hypothesis make sense? Is it able to explain the phenomenon in a concise and clear manner?
- Clarity: Can the theory or framework be easily understood and applied? It is it easily accessible for the intended audience?
- Supported by empirical evidence: Does the theory or framework have a strong empirical basis? Has it been supported by strong empirical support?
- Has the framework, theory or approach the potential to innovate and generate new approaches or insights for the research question?
On the basis of these factors, you can evaluate and compare the different theories or frameworks and choose the one with the greatest potential to be used as the theoretical foundation for your research. Note that different frameworks or theoretical approaches can be applied in conjunction to gain a deeper and more nuanced insight into the topic or problem.
