Comprehensive health insurance pt 2
A doctor will order additional tests, examinations, or procedures in a reimbursement scheme where the insurance company bills after the patient has received all treatment. This is done to make sure that all diagnoses and treatments have been covered, as this could increase reimbursement. The defensive medicine approach is designed to safeguard healthcare providers in the event of malpractice claims by showing they have done all that’s necessary to properly diagnose and treat patients. This practice, however, can increase healthcare costs as well as lead to unnecessarily expensive procedures and tests which may not result in better patient outcomes.
