Title: The Impact of Standardized Care Plans on the Monitoring of Patients’ Progression Towards Evidence-based Care Plan Education by Nurses in a Small Community Teaching Hospital
Background:
The nursing care plan is an essential tool that nurses use to deliver consistent and effective patient care. Standardized care plans have been proven to enhance the outcomes of patients as well as improve their quality (Harrison and colleagues, 2020). However, it is unclear whether the use of standardized care plans by nurses in small community teaching hospitals can increase the monitoring of patients’ progression towards evidence-based care plan education. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of standardized care plans on the monitoring of patients’ progression towards evidence-based care plan education by nurses in a small community teaching hospital.
Problem Statement:
It has been shown that the use of standard care plans improves patient outcomes. However, limited research is available on their effectiveness in small teaching community hospitals. In these settings, nurses may be challenged with the ability to monitor patients’ progression towards evidence-based care plan education due to limited resources and time constraints. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the impact of standardized care plans on the monitoring of patients’ progression towards evidence-based care plan education in small community teaching hospitals.
Description of Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of standardized care plans on the monitoring of patients’ progression towards evidence-based care plan education by nurses in a small community teaching hospital.
Search Question
Does the use of standardized care plans by nurses in a small community teaching hospital increase the monitoring of patients’ progression towards evidence-based care plan education as compared to non-standardized care plans?
Hypothesis:
The use of standardized care plans by nurses in a small community teaching hospital will increase the monitoring of patients’ progression towards evidence-based care plan education as compared to non-standardized care plans.
Methodology:
Design: A randomized controlled trial (RCT) will be conducted to investigate the impact of standardized care plans on the monitoring of patients’ progression towards evidence-based care plan education.
Sample size: A power analysis will determine the sample size. One hundred nurses will be selected from an American small teaching hospital.
Criteria for inclusion:
- The small teaching hospital is home to nurses who are dedicated to the community.
- Experienced nurses with knowledge of care plans
- Participants in the research study must be nurses who have agreed to take part.
Conditions of exclusion
- Nursing staff on study leave
- Nursing staff who are not familiar with Care Plans
- Nursing staff who refuse to take part in the research
Control group: This group uses non-standard care plans. Intervention group: the intervention group follows a standard care plan.
Data collection: The data will be collected by using pre-and post-test designs. Both groups will take the pre-test to set a baseline. The post-test is administered following the intervention.
Data Analysis: The descriptive statistics used will summarize the results, while inferential stats will determine their significance. In order to compare how many patients in each group were being monitored by their nurses regarding the progress they made towards the evidence-based plan of care, a chi square test was used.
Limitations: The study’s findings may not be generalizable to other hospitals or healthcare settings due to the small sample size and the study’s location. There may also be biases that are introduced in the data collection and recruitment processes.
Conclusion:
The study’s findings will contribute to the existing knowledge on the effectiveness of standardized care plans in small community teaching hospitals. Results may be used in the creation of guidelines to improve the outcomes of patients and use standardized care plan. Additionally, the study may highlight the importance of monitoring patients’ progression towards evidence-based care plan education in nursing practice.
