Module 08 discussion – communicating non-verbally
Nonverbal communication is a unique form of communication that I use. My first observation is that I’m a person who tends to express myself. When interacting with others, my facial expressions often reflect what I’m feeling or thinking—whether it be joy, confusion, frustration etc.—which helps convey my message more clearly than just verbal communication alone.
I also tend to use a lot of hand gestures when talking which can help add emphasis to certain points or ideas that I’m trying to get across. Additionally, posture is important for me; if someone has “good posture” then this can communicate poise and confidence even before they open their mouth to speak.
Eye contact, for me too, is important. By making eye contact directly during conversations I help foster trust and understand between the parties. It also helps show that you are engaged in the discussion at hand—even if words aren’t being spoken out loud.
These unique nonverbal patterns have helped me in my personal and professional life. They help to create deeper connections between people by sending subtle but powerful messages, which are not always possible through the use of words.
