The health issue being studied will determine the demographic that is most affected in terms of incidence, mortality, and morbidity. Asthma and COPD are common respiratory diseases that affect older people due to their weak immune system. Cancer is more prevalent among younger individuals because of lifestyle factors. Additionally, certain gender-specific conditions can also vary depending on one’s sex such as diabetes or heart disease.
The morbidity rate is higher in those who live in poverty, as they lack basic needs and are therefore at a greater risk to develop certain diseases. Mortality rates also vary widely between different ethnicities, some groups experiencing higher deaths than others.
In the end, healthcare professionals can better identify risk factors by identifying which demographics suffer from these diseases. They will then be able to prescribe appropriate treatments. This will allow them to better serve their patients in the long run while simultaneously decreasing any disparities.
