Quantitative techniques rely on data obtained through experiments or surveys to test theories about a certain phenomenon. Qualitative approaches utilize non-numerical information such as interviews or observations in order to gain more insight into people’s lived experiences and understand why certain behaviour occurs. Mixing quantitative and qualitative methods allows for a deeper understanding of the phenomenon. Finaly, action-oriented methods involve the practical application of knowledge. For example, participatory action research seeks to empower groups or individuals to make positive changes in their communities.
