All healthcare professionals, including nurses, technicians, CFOs, and pharmacists are held to the exact same standards of care. This means that they all must deliver safe, ethical, and patient-centered care. Nurses must follow physician orders and provide compassionate care to each patient. The pharmacists are responsible for ensuring that drugs are safely dispensed by checking drug interactions, and verifying the patient’s information. Technicians must ensure that they are taking accurate measurements, following protocols and ensuring quality results. Meanwhile nurse educators have to keep up with the best practices so as to educate students on patient safety.
As well as being responsible for budgeting, resource management and compliance regulations regarding patient privacy and security of data, CFOs have a significant role to play in the promotion of patient safety. All of these professionals must abide by federal laws such as HIPAA which outlines measures that must be taken to protect a patient’s health information from being disclosed without their consent. All health care professionals should also adhere to professional standards established by groups such as The Joint Commission and American Nurses Association, in order to improve the overall quality of their care.
