A colleague of mine discussed an anxiety patient, pointing out that the symptoms they were experiencing seemed to correlate with their stress levels at work. In addition to the feeling of being overwhelmed, I suggested that other factors such as environmental stressors or family dynamics could be playing a role in the patient’s anxious feelings and recommended asking more questions about these topics during next visit.

One colleague talked about a patient recently diagnosed with depression. He discussed the possible causes of his condition, including genetic predisposition and recent life events. Although these are valid factors in this diagnosis, I recommended that we also look at other outside factors like substance abuse which may increase the chances of depression. Further, I suggested asking about his support system and whether it has helped him alleviate depressive symptoms or provided an outlet for emotions.
