Recent in my primary care setting I witnessed a clinical case involving a male adult aged between 35-65. After experiencing abdominal pains for several days, it was determined that the patient suffered from appendicitis. After consulting with the rest of his medical team, the decision was made to immediately perform surgery as this issue is typically time sensitive—failure to intervene may result in life threatening complications.
The patient’s diagnosis and subsequent treatment plan followed evidence-based guidelines which recommended prompt surgical intervention when symptoms of appendicitis are present. In this particular case, the individual received excellent care from everyone involved—from his physicians who quickly identified the problem to the nurses who provided physical and emotional support during pre-operative procedures. I was amazed to watch a patient with a severe condition treated so quickly, yet with compassion. These observations have reinforced my dedication towards providing high-quality healthcare.
