In fact, I have been influenced by several nursing theories. For example, Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring has had a major impact on the way I think about providing care to those in need, as it places an emphasis on creating an environment that is both supportive and nurturing while ensuring respect for each individual’s unique needs. Similarly, Dorothea Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory has been essential in understanding how to provide effective care by recognizing when individuals can take responsibility for their own health or require assistance from professionals.
In addition to these two theories, I have also been heavily influenced by Florence Nightingale who advocated for better standards within the field and championed hygienic practices with her “Notes on Nursing.” Lastly, Virginia Henderson’s Need Theory provides insight into how individuals learn to become independent which is something I strongly believe should be at the core of any professional nurse’s practice.
Overall, all these theorists helped shape my views on what constitutes quality healthcare and how it should be delivered — emphasizing the importance of being attentive to patient preferences as well as promoting self-determination whenever possible so individuals can make informed decisions regarding their own wellbeing.
