Based on what I observed in the video, as Masaya’s preceptor, it is important to model several leadership skills for fellow coworkers to promote his acceptance into the work-group or team. Firstly, effective communication is essential to ensure that everyone is aware of Masaya’s strengths, weaknesses, and contributions to the team. Secondly, active listening and empathy are crucial in understanding and addressing any concerns or issues that coworkers may have regarding Masaya’s integration into the team. Lastly, it is essential to promote a culture of inclusivity and respect, where everyone’s contributions are valued and recognized.
It does not seem that incivility is a big issue when viewed in this video. It is still important to remember that incivility comes in many shapes and sizes, such as verbal abuse, bullying or even lateral violence. Lachman’s article (2015), which was assigned to you, highlights ethical concerns associated with disruptive behavior and stresses the importance of organizations developing policies and procedures that address incivility and help prevent it.
The article, the video and the Civility Index all share a common theme: the need to promote a workplace culture that is inclusive and respectful. Civility Index assesses behaviors such as showing respect, listening carefully, and refraining from gossip. While the article stresses the need to create a civil work environment, the video highlights how respectful workplace interactions have a positive effect.
The issue in the video may be related to delegation. Masaya’s preceptor delegated tasks to him without providing adequate support or training, which resulted in a lack of confidence and frustration on Masaya’s part. To ensure that the delegate is successful, it’s important to provide clear expectations and resources.
