Personalize your nursing philosophy
Nursing is my personal philosophy. It is founded on the idea that caring for those who are in need with compassion and quality is one of life’s greatest gifts. I strive to combine my knowledge and skills with empathy, understanding and respect for patients’ needs. To me, nursing is not only about healing someone’s physical ailment but also caring for their emotional pain.
The Person-Centered Approach to Nursing is a major influence on my view of nursing. This approach emphasizes the importance of building partnerships and relationships between patients and other healthcare providers in order facilitate mutual understanding. This approach encourages the nurses to use their skills and knowledge to reach positive results, rather than being task-oriented. It also stresses educating the patients to empower them to make their own informed health decisions.
Furthermore, I am also guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring which advocates for holistic care that encompasses body, mind and spirit. It is important to incorporate spiritual practices and cultural beliefs in everyday life, as well as strive for a meaningful emotional connection between the nurse and patient.
