In order to give the best patient care, you must adhere to certain professional standards. Certain posts and conversations may not be appropriate based on the guidelines. For example, engaging in gossip about colleagues or patients on social media or making disparaging comments about an individual’s race, ethnicity, gender identity, etc would all be considered unprofessional and could lead to disciplinary action.
Nursing staff can be seriously affected by posting images of patients without consent or discussing sensitive medical information online with people who are not nurses. Posts containing offensive or profane language, as well as any other posts that contain such words should also be avoided. This could cause a bad impression on potential clients/employers.
Overall, it is essential for nurses to maintain high ethical standards both online and offline; by taking the necessary precautions when engaging in digital conversations – they can help prevent situations where their professionalism might be called into question and better protect themselves from potential repercussions.
