My nursing topic is the importance of patient education regarding medication adherence. It is well known that many patients are not adhering to their prescribed medication, which can lead to serious health problems and increased costs. The topic of medication non-adherence is particularly relevant to nurses, as it has a direct impact on their ability provide high quality care. Nurses can help patients to achieve the best outcome by educating them about the importance following their treatment plan.

All three groups of learners (novices, proficients and experts) have specific traits that relate to the approach they take towards this nursing topic. Beginners may not be familiar with the concept of medication adherence and will need more information to fully understand its importance. Although proficient level learners are already familiar with medication adherence, they may benefit from additional information about how to best help those who struggle with regular medication taking.

These individual characteristics of learners help to inform the best way to teach different groups of students, while also helping everyone understand why medication compliance is so important for overall health outcomes.
