Describe the background of the nurse you selected. Discuss the major social issues occurring at the time this nurse lived.

Florence Nightingale was the name of my chosen nurse. She lived 1820-1910. She was an innovator in the field of nursing and reforming public health during her life. Her most notable work was during the Crimean War, when she dramatically improved the conditions of British military hospitals and helped to lower mortality rates.

Florence Nightingale’s life was marked by many issues of social importance, both at home and abroad. In the United States, as industrialization increased and factories became larger with more people living in them, there was an increase of poverty. The height of imperialism abroad was when European powers were trying to extend their influence around the world through colonization, trade agreements and other means. Additionally, women’s rights movements were also gaining traction due largely in part to increasing literacy rates among females which allowed them more opportunities for self-expression and advocacy than ever before.

Overall, during Florence Nightingale’s lifetime many important social issues arose which continue to influence global politics today – from international relations and economic development to gender equality and human rights protection – making her contributions even more remarkable given how much they have endured over time despite all of these shifting dynamics.
