Topic: The health promotion and well-being of the Hispanic community in the United States.
Introduction:
The Hispanic minority population in the United States is more than 18%. Hispanics have also the highest rate of obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other health problems. Hispanics need to be targeted with health-promoting and wellness campaigns in order to reduce disparities and improve health. This paper will examine the issue of Hispanic health promotion and wellbeing in the United States.
Topic and target population description:
Hispanics in the United States are a diverse population that comes from various countries of Latin America, including Spain. In recent years the population has grown rapidly, and by 2020 there will be more than 60 millions Hispanics in America. Health disparities are also prevalent in this population. Hispanics are more likely to be obese, diabetic, and have cardiovascular diseases than non-Hispanics, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Healthy People by 2020
Healthy People 2020 is an initiative that aims at improving the health of Americans. It has several goals, such as reducing health disparities. It has multiple objectives in relation to Hispanics’ health. These include reducing obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Health Promotion Project articles:
This paper is based on a review of three nursing research or scholarly articles that were published in the last five year. Articles focused on Hispanic health initiatives and promotion. The articles I read provided valuable insights into how lifestyle change can be promoted and improved in Hispanic populations.
The article summary:
Rodriguez, et. al. wrote the first piece. The first article, by Rodriguez et al. (2019), describes an community-based programme that was designed to encourage physical activity and healthy diet among Hispanic Women in the United States. This program included several elements, such as group classes, support from peers, and activities at home. It was determined that the program had a positive impact on improving healthy eating and physical activity among participants.
Sanchez and Norman’s second article (2020) describes a web intervention that aims to increase physical activity for Hispanic adults living in the United States. It included features such as goal-setting that was personalized, support from others, and monitoring of one’s own behavior. The intervention has been found to promote physical activity among participants and reduce sedentary behaviour.
Marquez and colleagues have written the third article. The article (2018) describes an intervention that was culturally tailored to promote physical activity in Hispanic Breast Cancer Survivors living in the United States. This intervention consisted of several elements, including group classes, coaching and peer support. It was determined that the intervention had a positive impact on improving participants’ physical activity levels and decreasing fatigue.
Approaches used to promote and educate lifestyle change among the targeted population:
On the basis of the information in these articles, I suggest that a multifaceted strategy be used to improve the health and lifestyle outcomes for the Hispanic community. This approach must be tailored for the specific needs of Hispanics. These specific strategies could include
- Community-based Programs: Community programs can have a positive impact on the Hispanic community by promoting healthy habits and activities. These programs should involve peer support, home-based activities, and culturally-appropriate educational materials.
- Web-based Interventions: Web-based intervention can be a powerful way to encourage physical activity in Hispanic adult. The interventions must be designed to meet the needs of Hispanic adults and should include social support, self-monitoring, goal setting, and personalized goals.
- Culture-tailored Interventions: These culturally-tailored intervention can promote physical activity in Hispanic Breast Cancer Survivors. This should be done through group classes and individual coaching.
