Language barriers and cultural differences are two challenges that arise during the implementation stage of a strategy for health promotion in multicultural communities. When communicating important instructions or information related to a project, language barriers may cause some individuals to struggle to comprehend what’s being said. Cultural differences may also lead to miscommunications because of different beliefs or norms. This could hinder engagement with community members who have different views on health.
There may be other logistical challenges, such as insufficient resources or transport that could make things more complicated and discourage participation. In order to overcome these obstacles, it’s important that those planning strategies to promote health in multicultural areas ensure there are enough resources available to hire translators, to provide interpreters and to employ other needed personnel.
