In Native American culture, for instance, respecting nature is a fundamental principle. However in Asian cultures elders might be given more reverence.
One cultural practice that springs to mind when thinking of the Japanese is the courtesy bow. It can be used as a way to greet or express gratitude. This gesture involves bending slightly at the waist while placing palms together in front of one’s face as a sign of respect; this custom has been around since ancient times and although it is no longer required it remains largely part of traditional culture today due its historical significance.
