The field of nursing informatics combines technology with healthcare data in order to enhance patient outcomes and care. The application of information sciences, computer science and health science to the nursing profession is what it involves. The collection and management clinical data, the development of evidence-based tools for nurses, and the implementation of EMR systems are all part of this.
As a nurse leader, a nursing informatics knowledge worker plays an important part in helping the team to stay current on technology. The nurse leader must also be able teach staff how to effectively use the applications while adhering to relevant laws and regulations regarding patient confidentiality. Knowledge workers will also be able to strategize how emerging technologies can fit into the existing structures and develop quality control/assurance standards across the board. Having a comprehensive understanding of both the micro and macro dynamics that influence nursing informatics is crucial to leaders making more informed decisions.
